Hello,
I need to buy my first tractor for my newly purchased 30 acre farm. I am advertising in the WV market bulletin for one, and have began to recieve calls. One fellow called me with a MF 175 (1964 model) with a brush hog and "garden" plow for $7000. I have no idea what to look for and even whether or not this is a good deal.

All i can do is drive them...I am sure mechanically their is nothing i could not fix, for I have worked on cars for years including rebuilding engines..... ..

I can find no specs online as to HP or anything, so any advice is appreciated. Does it have a separate clutch for PTO?

It's an excellent tractor....but $5K would be the most I'd pay for a very nice one. At $7K it must be completely restored both mechanically and for looks... and it should be all original everything for that price. They go for $5K and $6K+ here in Texas once in a while that I see, but they are always near perfect at that price. How much are the implements adding to the cost? Maybe if the implements are high, you need to find them elsewhere, and buy it without them.

7 grand is steep unless it is brand new. If it had a loader on it, well.

HP is around 60, Sounds a little high as far as the price or at least for what they go for in this area but I'm not a MF man so I may be wrong about the price but the HP is from the Neb. tests

Tractortips.com shows that the 174's were manufactured in 1986-1989. Somebody else will have to comment on the PTO. C. T.

Sorry, just noticed that you said 174 in heading and 175 in message. Based on that, tractortips.com indicates that it has a "live" PTO (and was manufactured 1964-1975). It also shows that it cost $7553.00 new. If the "live" PTO is the same as my 1964 MF35, it has a dual clutch. Depress halfway, PTO continues to turn but tractor doesn't move, all the way and PTO stops. C. T.
