hey everyone again... when i was fixing and painting my mh 44 up.. it is mh 44-6 but it has 4 clyinder with h260.. so i pulled the shifter out, because it has no knob on it and its all rusted out so i took other shifter with knob, out of mh 44 donor with h260, then i noticed the pivot balls on both were different but same shape ball sizes but the one in 44-6 were thinner than shifter pivot ball on 44 with h 260 donor.. i bet the thinner povit ball were much easier to break off than thicker pivot ball off mh 44 h260.. can anyone tell me why they did this? just thought to let everyone to know about that...

thanks again sbone

I replaced the shifting lever on my 44 special with one from a 44. The ball on the end of the 44 shifter was smaller than the one from the 44 special.

On a few occassions, I have had my tractor stuck in 2 gears because that ball has slipped out of the channels it is suppose ride in. I only seems to get it stuck in two gears when I am in a hurry.

I am going to repair the original shifting lever and use that.

mine works just fine.. never had a problem with it but i dont know why there was 2 different sizes but the ball is exactly same size but one is much thinner and other is thicker.. the width with flat surface on both sides on pivot ball..
