Guys,
The MF-135 that I have does not have any keys that come with it. Would I hurt any thing by just connecting the two cables together and bypassing the key switch? Just using the starter switch to start it.?

Add marvel mystery oil to fuel that will lube carb and help with float.

Looks like you got a nice project at the right price. If you will order the MF shop service manual and operator's manual, you will save yourself hundreds of dollars, thousands of cuss words, and enjoy your tractor ten times as much as if you don't. Here's some old sayings to ponder.
If it's good, it's not cheap.
If it's cheap, it's not good.
If it's free: Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.
Good luck, I hope you enjoy your tractor as much as I enjoy mine, Jim

Jim,
The manuals are on the way! Oh by the way I got it running today. She sounds like a watch running. But I think I need to rebuild the carb. When I turned on the fuel from the tank it ran out the breather tube connected to the carb. Might be a stuck float.

I think all the keys for the 100 series tractors are the same. If I remember right, the key energizes the circuits for your gauges. If you just bypass the switch by connecting the two wires, you could drain your battery. A small knife or screwdriver can be used for a key to get you by till you can get a key

the keys are the same for the 100 series. that's the great thing about them. If you have a key, you can go to a dealer and start up a 130,135,150,165,175, or 180. I think some of the IH tractors are like this also. The keys seem to show up on Ebay rather frequently.

As a short-term solution I suppose you could just short the two wires together. As a long-term solution go to local tractor store and get a key. They seem to be quite commonly available.

Chuck, even a ford key will turn the switch. You can take most any key, then insert it about 1/4 in, then turn and start, or pick up keys at your MF dealor. alvinnms

I bought Pony keys at the Massey Ferguson dealer for $1. Maybe 135 keys are available there also.

Shouldn't be a problem to short the two start wires, that's all the switch does. Also, I've seen MF keys on eBay quite often. There's one there right now. Might even be the right one!
