To Air is Human; I would put my money with the folks who think air is the culprit. My friend
and I overworked a 20 Ton hydraulic wood splitter one time. The seals were damaged by excess strain on real tough elm. The cylinder pulled in air and it compresses like a spring instead of the smooth hydraulic performance we were used to.
When the wood split free the cylinder acting like an air spring would launch the wood pieces about 6 feet away. We rebuilt the power seal assembly, put it together, added hydraulic oil to the reservoir and resumed regular wood splitting. Make the necessary seal replacement(s) and your
normal loader performance will return. To air is human to seal is divine.

Chuck does it bounce as it is coming up & stop bouncing after it reaches the top or does it come up smooth start to bounce after it reaches the top. Those would be caused by two different things

Chuck that is caused by a leak in the hydraulic system someplace. That causes the lift to leak down & then the position control corrects it to the level it was set at. The most common place on those system was the pump control valve it could also be the relief valve or a leak in the lift cylinder. If I can be of further help Email me

Is your draft control spring tight? If this is loose and able to flop around it will induce a feedback loop as the system thinks it's ploughing... Assuming you took the lift cover off to change the filter did you renew the o-rings on the stack pipe, these would also cause this fault as the pump lifts the linkage, shuts off, oil leaks back and arms drop which re-engages the pump...

Sound like you got air in the lift cyclinder. Check with Big Dean to find out how to bleed air out of the system.

Sounds like air to me too.

runing the Lift should shake out the air, but if not, than unscrew the hose just a bit, enough to get the hyd fliud to leak out when you use it that will bleed out the air. than tighten it back down and away you go.

It kind of sounds like you may have bad valves in the ferguson pump or some thing else gone bad. Like a worn piston or two. It may be an adjustment that needs to be made to the control linkages under the lift cover. The fact you said the filter was gone or plugged up indicates to me that the pump may be at fault because of dirty oil or bad media getting into the pump causing damage.
