MF 1135 oil consumption problem

this tractor has the T6.354 perkins motor in it.The tractor was bought new in the year 1980.It has only done 4500 hrs in that time so it has had a very easy life. The motor starts up without any hesitation, even in winter, but it has a oil consumption of about 1 liter per hr.I thought it might have been a failed turbo so i had it rebuilt and it made no difference to the problem (except to the bank balance)
So my question is can oil get into the fuel system and/or has the valves got seals on them to stop oil getting sucked down them ????
With the engine starting so good I Didn`T think the rings could be letting that quantity of oil past them .This is not a sudden problem
Can anyone help with suggestions as to what the problem might be, thanks in advance,Bob

Bob,
When you fine out let me know.I have an 1135 also that is pucking oil out the exhaust, starts and runs good and it's not the turbo. My guess is I will have to tear it down. Dave

Check that the engine breather pipe is not blocked - Deglaze cylinder bores, fit scraper oil rings.

just because it starts good that don't mean the oil rings arn't shot or stuck. you do have valve seal but i don't think that is where all the oil is going. at 4500hr. it might need a overhaul

I have known of those being rebuilt and still using oil. Won't surprise me if the turbo is still part of the problem. Best thing to do will be check the oil often and add as needed, if it is running good. Where did you find a field big enough to hold the thing anyway ? alvinnms

Richird/MARLOW, the breathers are clear also the breather does not fume heavey as it would if the rings were totaly shot.YES glazing could be possibility
but would it not still fume heavy,
alvin,i`ve ruled out turbo because there was no difference after rebuilding

Oil consumption on these engines is not uncommon. A common fix was to de-glaze the bores and replace the standard slotted oil control rings with scraper rings (I think they were called duoflex or somthing similar) which came from a Perkins dealer as a genuine Perkins part,-it was not a 'cheap fix',but an aproved modification. A breather fumeing heavily is an indication of exessive crankcase comprssion caused by poor sealing of the comprssion rings, poor performance of the oil control rings would not always give heavy breathing (by the way, have you checked the out let for the breather on the engine is clear as well as the pipe it's self)Perkins engines of this type are also noted for dragging a bit of oil down the inlet guides, normally when overruning the engine down a hill a Massy tractor exhaust will show oil smoke, this how ever would not cause oil consumption of the rate you discribe,I think Perkins said when the oil consumption reaches 1% of the fuel used, rebuild.

OK,I get the piont on the oil control rings.
NOW,If the bores are glazed bad enough to use oil and as such still had good compression, how would i go as to take aircleaners out and let dust in to take the glaze out of the cylinder bores????
eather way i go it sounds like i have to rebuild the engine!!!!!
I`d have nothing to loose would I with the amount of oil it is using????? ??
