I have recently purchased a small property which included an unidentified MF tractor. All I know is that it has a AD3 152 Perkins in it. Where will I find the tractor serial number to help me track down the model number, etc.? Any other suggestions for ID are very welcome

from what i remember the massey 35x was a tractor /digger with a front and back hoe bucket. it has 8 forward gears [4 hi 4 low] and it had a heavy duty bronze clutch fitted. The ordinary 35 tractor has 3 hi and 3 low forward gears.

Are you sure it's a 152 not a 153? The AD3-153 motors, 3 cyl diesel, were used in the 135 and the 150 MF tractors I think in the late 1960's and early 70's. I bought a new 150 in 1971 with the AD3-153. About 38 hp.

My mistake, It is a AD3-152 perkins not 153 that were used in the late MF 135 and 150's. It's been a few years sence I owned one so I went back and looked in the operaters manual. The early ones used 4 cyl. continental motors.

I agree; you have a 135 diesel with a Perkins 3 cyl. 152 cu.in. 38 H.P. The serial number should be found just below the throttle lever
on the dash and have 6 digits if a UK model.
Down and to the left vertical dash side if American version and have a letter and numbers. The UK version has the square
box type front axle with no wishbone supports to the bell housing. They also have grease fittings on the front axle ends while the American has a large aluminum cap to be removed to grease. There
are other differences as well. The hood (bonnet)
is opened in two peices; one for fuel and rad, the other for battery and gauges and air cleaner
stack!

Sorry about the mistake on my previous post. The
serial number on a UK is just above the throttle lever on the dash. On the older American ones
it may be under the dash and to the right side
and below the battery tray just behind the engine
on the plate!

Should be somewhere on the dash.

very little information is readable apart from the last 5 digits (assumption) of the serial number and they are 94763.

the Perkins AD3 152 has the serial number of 152UA72048D. I'm not sure if this helps identify the model or not

Tractor is likely to be either a MF35, MF35X or MF135. MF135 has square bonnet. MF35s have rounded bonnet. If its got a pedal below the hydraulic control levers (the differntial lock pedal) and rounded bonnet its probably a MF35X. If there's no pedal (more likely) its a MF35. There are other differences but that's an easy way to start sussing it out.

Jimmy's right about AD3.152 being in 135 and about 35 being just an 3.152 (indirect injection) Not sure about A3.152 for MF35X. I thought the A was just a Perkins designation for an engine built for MF (agricultural) so I'm not sure what difference between 3.152 and A3.152 actually is. Anyone know?
