We have just purchased an addittional 20 acres. The problem is that about half of the acreage is open and full of gopher mounds. I want to buy a tiller to attach to my 1957 MF 40...Need help in 2 areas:
What is the best way to get rid of the gophers?
What type of tiller should I buy..I live in Pine River Minnesota so if you can recommend a dealer that would be great too.
Thanks for all your help

I have a Ferguson 40, and a Massey Ferguson 50. They stay at the house all year. I have several other bigger tractors. One of them is a Deere 2440. It's 60 HP. I have a Howard Rotovator now. (80"). Before I bought it, I had a King Kutter 72" model. I do quite a bit with the Rotovator. The King Kutter wouldn't hold up to constant use. BUT.....When I had it, I used it on the 40 and the 50, to do my garden. If it pulled too hard, I'd just till 3 or 4" deep, then make a second pass at full depth. Never had a problem. Unless you're going to do your ground every year, you should be able to get by with a King Kutter, or another less expensive brand. The Howard units are costly. They are worth the cost, if you plan on using them much. If I was going to buy a tiller JUST for the 40, I'd go with a 5', or smaller. Less strain on an old tractor. Those old 40's are good tractors. My uncle bought the one I have, new. My dad bought the 50, one year later. They have thousands of hours on 'em. John

Indy dirt farmer..thank you for the insights...the field will only be done once maybe twice in 5 years.....the 5' King Kutter sounds like a good choice.....Thanks Again
