I have an 85 with Continental diesel. I picked this unit up a few years back and did some work, clutch, injectors and it starts and runs well.
I installed a nice front end loader and have been using the tractor hydraulics as it came with the full auxiliary hydraulic controls(3 spools under the seat). From what I have been reading in the Massey forum, the hydraulic pump for these tractors was not designed for a large hydraulic implement such as a loader, thus it is very slow. I will eventually refit an additional external pump. It is essentially in the antique tractor category, but if you get some hours as a chore tractor it sure beats buying a $20000 unit. My Massey dealer starts to quiver when you mention Continental gas as the parts are rare as hen's teeth. Cheers

The 85 is a highly manuverable-well performing
tractor. The original tractor gave lots of grief
but many company updates later they were great.
Parts are not readily available but common ones are available and uncommon can be gotten thru your
dealer thru The Depot,DPNI,MF.,or salvage yards.
A MF collector magazine shows most internal engine
parts(Continental cut avail.quite early). The pow.
steering/pto pump is one hard item to get. We sold
alot of 85's in my business. Questions?763-682-2699 early evenings.

They are great if in good shape, but here on the
east coast the parts are impossible to locate. I
have several masseys and like them all but the 85
gasser has been setting in the weeds for years &
still waiting on a piston & sleeve. Massey dealers around here claim they never seen a model 85?

I have 2 MF 85 gas tractors. Both still do a days work. Also have super 90 diesel. You can find picture of it in tractor photos. Very good tractors. I have many other Massey tractors in my collection.
