When trying to bush hog the PTO does not engage. Before today the lever on the left side of the tractor would engage the pto when pulled up. It was sometimes hard to get into gear, but always responded. Now you can move the lever up and down and nothing happens. Any ideas of what to check or do? Thanks.

Something's adrift. Could be as simple as the bolt or pin securing the control lever to the rod going into the transmission.

If that's not it, you'll have to remove the cover and see what's happened inside.

If the oil level is up, some will run out in the process. You can drain a couple of gallons out first, or run the left wheel up onto a 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 block to raise the hole above oil level. BLOCK THE TRACTOR SECURELY from moving if you do this!

When replacing the cover, we use silicon in place of the original gasket to seal it. A light coating only - too much can lead to blobs floating around in the transmission.

Good luck!
