Does any have a picture or drawing or even a good verbal description of this rare steering arm required for mounting a front pump? I don't want to start cutting and welding unless I know what the heck I would be trying to make here. I know if I do it left to my own devices, I'll end up just about 1/2" off ;) Thanks!

The arms on the top of the spindles were longer on early 65s than on late models. This means that the arm on the verticle shaft in the front casting had to move farther to turn the front wheels all the way to one side or the other. When the wheels are turned all the way to the left, that arm interferes with the shaft for the front pump. The solution was to put shorter arms on the spindles. I'm not sure about modifying the arms you have. It would probably be better to replace them with the newer style.

So what your saying is that it's not the pitman arm that is somehow offset, but the steering arms on the front spindles are shorter? Hmm, that wasn't the impression I got from previous posters.Makes sense, though. Would arms from, say a 165 fit? That would be too easy.

Some had the key on the side while others had it 90 degrees off. I'm not sure which years or models were which way.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. Here I thought the only solution was to find an offset main pitman arm. Come to find out all I need is newer, shorter spindle arms! Got to be more of them around than those dang offset pitmans. Even if the keys are in the wrong place, I can always have new keyways cut. There's hope! Bob, I thank you.

I had time to look at my tractors this morning. I have a 1964 65, a 1966 165 and a 1969 165. The 65 has the key at the back of the spindle and the spindle diameter is 1&1/8". The 165s have the key on the inside and the diameter is 1&3/8". Previously, I had a 1960 65 and a 1968 165. I remember that they were different from each other. The 1960 had the long spindle arms and 1964 has the short ones. My father tried to put a Superior loader with a front pump on the 1960. It turned into such a problem that he traded the loader for the 165 with a Massey loader plumbed into the tractor hydraulics. That was before we knew about the different arms and it is why I am familiar with this.

Went to the Massey dealer today just for grins. Apparently M-F had retrofit steering kits, with the arms listed under several different part numbers. Still available at $300 each! The pulley adapter plate they want $300 for as well. I could hire a machinist to make it at half the price, if that.
I figure the arms must be available used somewhere. Still leaves the shaft, pump, mounting plate and couplings to be solved. Any recommendations on pump gpm? Im thinking 11-17 range for a good all purpose pump for loader, fence post drive and spreader.

That should be plenty of flow. The Warner Motive auxillary pump is rated at 8 gpm for the remote side.
