We have a MF165 - 1973 model - gas, perkins 56 horsepower, great paint, wide front end, live PTO, good tires, low hours, multi power, air seat, no leaks. I love this tractor, but my husband wants a 4x4 Century. I don't want to give the MF away, I would like to get a fair price for it. We paid $7200.00 for it 4 years ago and have had a Allied quick on/off loader installed on it (gosh that was almost $4000.00) My husband wants to sell the Massey for $7000.00. I would like to go $9500.00. I still feel this is fair. It is a wonderful tractor. Can you help me to find out where or who I can call to find out a fair price? We live in Ohio.

I personally wouldn't get rid of the 165 for a smaller compact 4x4. Do you ever have problems with it getting stuck or what's the reason 4x4 is so special? Are the tires loaded/ are you making ruts? if they are loaded, take the fluid out if you're making ruts. I doubt you'd be able to get rid of the 165 for that much. Even your husband's price seems a little high. I guess I want my tractors for nuthin, or else I'd buy a new one for only 2 times as much as some people are asking.

I'd keep the MF and let your husband buy the other unit. Always good to have one reliable tractor about the farm. Your own a gem!!!!

Dont know where I got the idea it was an SUV but no difference. If there is no better reason for trading or selling than "wanting" the centuary tractor, it dont make sense. I sold a good gas truck to buy a diesel but I needed the extra power and the fuel consumtion has been a big bonus. 6 mpg trailer loaded to 16 plus with the diesel. Still will take a long time to get a payback in $ but I feel more confident all the time with this rig.

Carol; Just as a reference, take a look at photo ad 65159, You can type that in the search block. This one is $6000. asking price. There is one on auction near here in a couple days and I hope to get it for about $4000. If it goes much higher it will go to some one else. Good luck though because as the man said, there are tractor and tractors, if yours is special, keep it. It is worth more than a SUV anyday. I sold a car once my wife wanted me to keep, I have forever regretted it. Tell hubby that. Good luck.

Thanks, you guys. You all have helped a lot. I guess the reason I want to keep the Massey is I know it runs great. I don't know much about the new Century tractor that he wants. They are very expensive! Its only a 28 horsepower, even though it is four wheel drive. I don't think we would do well with the Massey to trade it in on the Century. Do any of you know anything about the Century tractors?

If you aren't in any hurry to get the SUV, price your tractor at the $9500. If someone doesn't like the price and you feel it is a good value at what you are asking, then raise the price a hundred or so. For either way you decide to go, be ready to watch the tractor sit awhile. Too many people want a new tractor (or anything else) at a scrap or used price.

Condition is everything when they are that old- what, about 30 yrs old? I have a 1000 hour tight-as-a-new-one 1977 Int 574 D that I turned down $9000 for. Those old classics if truly LOW houred have value. It's easy to note old junker auction prices & automatically devaluate an excellent one.

I've seen several of those go in the 5000 to6000
range with a loader. Likw someone said about
4500 for the tractor,1500 to 2000 for the loader. You can buy some 245'S or 231'S with
a loader in the $9000 range.

"book" price for gas is 4000. Perkins diesel 4500. Thats for excellent condition. Plus loader. The reason I answered this, is that if it is gas, it is a continetal engine, If it has a Perkins engine, it is diesel. What ever you can get..... .

No one can tell you 'exactly' what you'll get for it, only an "estimate". You will get as much as someone is willing to pay. Being a gas engine takes away some, the loader adds some. $7000 sounds a bit high to me but it may be a 'steal' in your area. Good Luck!
