Our MF 135 has the PTO with the ground and engine speed. Is this the equivalent of the 540/1000 or is this different? If so what is the engine speed equal to 540 or 1000? Also the tractor has the 2 stage clutch that allows the PTO to keep running while stopping the tractor. Is this what is referred to as the live pto or is this the independent pto? Thanks

I once read a book that stated in Ground PTO, PTO is equal to 1 Revolution per 20 inches of Ground travel.

The ground speed PTO will turn the PTO in proportion to your tractor's travel, regardless of engine rpm's. This can be used on a PTO driven hay rake or hay tedder, slow the hay movement down while keeping the engine rpm's up.

you have a 2 stage pto. it still allows hyd pump and pto to be driven by engine when pedal depressed half down to dissengage your gearbox. you have live hydraulics and pto , not ipto which is hydraulically engaged by clutch pack you apply hyd pressure to energise or dissengage.540 rpm pto speed is calculated at a certain engine r.p.m. as indicated on your tacho drive e.g. 1500~1700 rpm ,it will have 540 , std belt speed or similar words. ground speed is far slower and drives via your differential pinion through 2 gears. this only works when the tractor moves. hope this makes sense. cheers.

Well my father was able to locate the original owner's manual and it is indeed a 540 at 1700 rpms. Thanks for the help.

So, if I understand you right this would be considered a 540 speed PTO when it is shifted into the engine mode on the PTO selector?

exactly correct, @1700 rpm engine speed. larger tractors have 1000 rpm pto or 540, on some it is only a matter of swapping the fine spline(1000rpm) for the coarse spline (540 rpm) shaft. others are a bit more complicated to change over. some newer small (15 hp) upwards tractors have 540,1000 and ground speed fitted at factory as standard equipment. we own a bolens 3 cyl unit with above factory fitted. in the previous answer to your question i meant to say you have a 2.stage clutch. cheers for now.
