I have an MF 35 with a perkins diesel it has the oil bath breather on it now. Does anyone make a retrofit paper air cleaner/breather kit?? So I can get rid of the oil bath breather?

Billy - In my too many years selling filters, I learned oil bath filters are less than 50% efficient, and that only at high air velocity. Paper filters are from 90 to 95% efficient at any air velocity. Most Donaldson original equipment dry filters have both an outer and an inner element, making them quite efficient. Check a tractor bone yard for a used unit that will bolt on. Oil bath works by centrifugal force as the air changes direction and the oil catches what flies out. There is no "bath." Paper actually traps the dirt in the element. There are good reasons MF went to the dry unit.

Jerry, i agree with you to a point, have never seen an engine damaged equipped with an oil bath air cleaner, ever!. have rebuilt several with dry element type because ,it was o.k. last week, ill get a replacement next time im in town, shes right and will last till i finish ploughing or rotary hoeing, never happened when all you needed was a quart of oil and 15`20 minutes to service oil bath. how many dry ones do you see that have dents on the ends? exscuse, it was choked a bit more than last time, so i tried to knock it on front tyre but then thumped dust out by knocking it on front axle. pros and cons for both, know which one i prefer, but dry is easier .

Billy, why change when the oil bath is a more efficent and less costly filter?

I converted my MF35 to a dry filter from a JD 1020 salvage tractor because it a filter I stock for my other tractors. If I did over again I would probably get a dry filter off late 135 just because it easier to mount. The reason I changed because its getting harder get rid of waste oil. Im sorry but also seen people who don't clean the oil bath so they remove the hose to get the tractor to run.

i must also admit, very true, they get neglected and disposal of oil and gunk is an issue, but never seen one dusted to finish job on weekend , always find a quart of oil for oil bath at servo for oil bath, easier than finding filter element on weekend.
