hi!

my suggestion would be to get an alternator, it's the easiest way of getting rid of charging problems once and for all.

Alternators never cause problems? I would have my generator checked out first. It will fit back in place with no modifications-no headaches. My humble opinion. Cosmo

Chances are the voltage regulator is bad. There are three parts to the genny: the field, which are the windings inside the case, the armature and ground. All three connect to the regulator. Find a dc voltmeter and attach the appropriate leads to ground and the armature post, start the engine and then short the field terminal to ground. If you get current, the genny's OK and it's your regulator. They'll run you about $30. Otherwise, it's your armature brushes or field coils.
