Advance throttle, motor bogs down

I have a gas MF 165 that I recently bought. When I try to throttle it up it bogs down. I don't really have this problem with the choke out. Also once the engine gets really warm it starts running OK (by really warm I mean after maybe 5 minutes).

I replaced the plugs, plug wires, put a new carburetor kit in, set the proper value gaps, and checked the air filter. I checked the compression on each cylinder and they were all right around 120. I adjusted the timing by ear, but basically ended up putting it back where it was.

I opened the gas line up at the carb. with it disconnected for just a second and it appeared to have a good flow. The only thing about the gas was I took the gas bowl off (to empty the sediments), when I put it back on and opened the value it filled really slow. If I loosened the bowl some it would start filling fast. I assume this is because the float had the needle closed in the carb.

I did all of things mentioned above by myself and I'm by no means an expert mechanic, but I feel I did everything properly. The only thing I haven't replaced is the distributor cap, rotor, condenser, and points, but they all look good to me. I checked to make sure each plug was firing and that a plug wire wasn't crossed.

My guess is that the problem is in the needle adjustments on the carb. After the new carb. kit I started both needles at 1 turn out. I think I adjusted them out to 1 1/2 on the idle screw and 2 on the power needle. I don't really know the proper way to adjust these.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you reset the power adjustment screw following the owners manual? I don't have my book here at the house, but the gas carbs on the old TO tractors recommended 1 1/4 turns open for starters(under no circumstances less than 1 full turn), then adjust under load for fine adjustment. The test method is to quickly open the throttle and if the engine falters open the screw 1/8 turn each time until it revs up properly. Contental engines use the fuel for additional cooling under heavy load, so they run rich at idle.
