I have a MH44 GR with tubular wide front end. Does anyone know if the steering support assembly is cast steel or cast iron. Mine is broken from port to starboard inbetween the bolt patterns. My understanding is that Ferrule nickel rod can be used to weld it. Any info is welcome. Bob

if its cast and you can stick weld get some nickel rod and grind a v on crack weld 3/4 to 2 inches long depending on thickness of part and stop tap on part untell you can place your hand on it and not get burned then weld another bead that same lenght you dont want it to get too hot when I say tap I mean tap with a small item I use what ever steel is laying around just enuf to shock the cast dont hit the weld you just need to vibrate it a little this makes the fibers in the cast larger so they are not small as cast at the break is shis will make it strong so it will hold

never tig weld it now this may start a fight with welders by trade but if one tells you to tig cast he don't know how to weld cast tig will almost never hold cast many verry good welders I know tig cast they are good welders just not good cast welders sorry.... and keep it away from H2O when its hot it WILL break
