I have a 1962 MF-35 3 cyl diesel. I want a mower to keep approx 6 acres of horse paddock under control. Any thoughts about the best type to get? I've been recommended to get a flail mower, but I'm worried this might rip more than cut. would a gang mower be more suitable? I don't care if it is old as long as it works.

Thanks

Thanks. Sounds like a rotary mower is the way to go. I'll keep an eye open for a good used one.

A 7.6 Lilleston would work real well if you can find one. 7'6" cut,3 blades, quiet, will do rough mowing with ease,or lower it down and it mows like a grooming mower. I pull one with an 8N with no problem.

Add my vote for the rotary mower. I mow five acres and if it gets a little over grown it's no big deal as it would be with a reel or flail mower. A rotary mower can take a lot of punishment. I use a 5' behind my '35.

Currently mowing over 30 acres pasture land here in Texas with a MF35 gas using a 5 ft brush hog. Works great. Usually run in 2nd high - if land is rough then 1st hi. Never need anything lower.

5' rotary mower would be good. Gang mowers would be great on a golf course, not in the rough.
