101 jr generator

hello again, on our new generator, there is a regular post on top and then there is a wire also coming out the side, does anyone know where this goes, its about 3 inches long
thakns for any help

The regular post is the field circuit post. That post should connect to the wound resistor terminal on the 3-position light/generator control switch on the dashboard (assuming that the switch is there). The 3-inch wire should be hooked up into a small, tin relay box (which has a single tower coil inside). This box (not a regulator but some guys think it is) prevents the battery from discharging through the generator when the tractor is shut off. The relaly box mounts directly on the generator case, there should be some threaded mounting holes near the wire to mount the relay box. Once that 3-inch wire is tied into the relay, there should be another wire from the relay tab terminal to the negative terminal of the ammeter (assuming you have the original positive ground system).
