Anyone Round Baling With their old MF's ?

I am considering finding a small 4x4 round baler to use behind my MF50 diesel. Anyone using their old 35, 50, 65 or similar 100 series to round bale some hay?

I thought that ground clearance might be a problem with my 50, but they are a row crop tractor and the front end has (I think) more clearance than a 35. I thought about trying to find a hi-crop version of a 65 and using that for round baling. More hp than my 50 and lots more ground clearance.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Bill

I used hesston 5530 ? made 4X4 bale with my 65 gas on some hilly land NO PROBLEMS except as you mentioned ground clearance with big windrow the hay would catch on hitch pin head below drawbar this best way is to rake to windrows about 6-10" apart from each other or windrow when cut with haybine about 36-40" wide and don't rake I had real good luck for 3 yrs then went back to squares the hydraulics are a little slow for operating end gate

I run a Hesston 5500 round baler, makes 5x5 bales. With my 1972 MF 165 Perkins Diesel, run in 1st gear High range, but The fields are real flat and when the bale gets near full size you can tell by the engine starting to work overtime.

Yep, I'm running a IH 241 Big Baler, pulling it with a 165 Diesel, 3rd gear, low range, multi power in high. Once in a while if the windrow is really thick, the hay will catch on the hich pin and start to bunch up. When this happens, I have to back up to clear it out.
