The tractor meter on my 135 has stopped working. Any ideas? It seems to jolt up a little bitas you wack the RPMs up, but less than a cm.

Thanks for any ideas, be gentle on me though, i have no idea how these things work!

In response to the other replies. Don't know about US models but UK ones are driven from a small triangular housing at the rear of the engine block. The drive is from the camshaft.
Common faults are breakage of the cable at the engine or clock end and wear in the drive socket pressed into the end of the camshaft thus allowing the cam to turn without the cable.
Remove the cable at the cam end and inspect for wear on the 'squared' end of the cable. Spin the cable and you should see a 'jump' in the needle.
Similar check at the other end of the cable. If OK, refit the front end and start the tractor. Apply a very light finger pressure to the inner cable and feel if you have positive drive. If the cable is OK then it looks like the clock cable socket is worn or the clock is faulty. Most of the clocks have a magnetic drive. The field created by a spinning magnet moves the needle dependant on speed. The chrome edge of the clock is swaged over so there is little that can be done to repair it. It is posible to remove the ring and you may well find that all is needed is a drop of oil on the needle spindle.
Replacement clocks are available from gen and non-gen sources. MF35's had several different clocks fitted but the 135 has only one type as far as I know other than if the tractor is a Multi-power.
Hope this helps.

The speedometer shops here (U.S.) have tools that open the swage and then re-swage after repairs are done. I would guess they do the same there. Might be worth a call.

Disconnect the cable from the back of the meter. See what the meter does if you can turn it by hand. If it seems good, then check the cable. If cable and meter are ok, check the parts that drive the cable 'til you find out what's not working. Any good speedometer shop should be able to fix the meter. The cable should be available through aftermarket tractor suppliers (or MF). Cable driver parts will probably have to come from MF.

Good call! My 135 tach drive cable just broke one day, every other part was free and turned easily. Go figure?
