I'm looking at a Ferguson finger bar mower which is for sale. It's currently on a TED 20 and I want it for a 1962 MF 35. It's in good condition. Does anyone have any experience of using a finger bar mower with a 35? I need a mower to maintain about 6 acres of paddock - to keep the grass under control in early Spring and then to cut it to make hay in Summer. Cutting speed isn't really an issue (I use a 36" lawn tractor at the moment so anything would be an improvement!)Any comments good or bad would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Chris, Whilst the finger bar mower was 'state of the art' in it's day, it's now had its day, if you see what I mean. They are buggers to attach to the three point linkage, you have to keep the knife sharp, which means filing by hand, you have to get your cutting speed just right - too fast and she'll clog with grass. The pitman arms have a tendency to shear as well. All in all, I would say forget the finger bar mower and get a good second hand pasture topper. Easy to use and maintain and rarely let you down. Your 35 should be able to handle a 4 to 5 foot topper easily.
Regards,
Peter.

Thanks Peter.

I'll save my money and look out for a decent used topper.
