Before I pull my hair out can you help with a fuel problem on my 1957 FE 35.
Problem;
Tractor will start and on full throttle run at 2,200rpm, over a period of 5 min. it will slowly drop to stopping.
Tried so far;
Taken fuel tap from tank, cleaned, fuel runs from tank, refit tap fuel runs through tap, changed fuel filter, replaced fuel lift pump,
checked all fuel lines for blockages, non-found.

Standard checks;
Bleed fuel system, started tractor, released fuel from each injector; engine dies and picks up again when union is tightened up again.
as the engine is dieing I tried working the fuel lift pump manually and the engine picks back up, this to me looks like fuel starvation, but from were?
refitted old fuel lift pump no difference

Your help would be most appreciated, have a rally booked in for next weekend, so got to get it going again by then.

Thanks in advance
Bob

There's a gauze filter in the rear (inlet) of the injector pump, it looks similar to the one that they fit in the fuel tank. Undo the inlet pipe and move it away. Undo the large union which the pipe is screwed into, carefully remove noting the spring and sealing washer. Remove the strainer and blow it out with air line. Ensure absolute cleanliness before refitting, this is the last chance filter before the pump so any dirt that gets in now will cause serious damage. It is preferable to blow everything clean before you start to prevent anything dropping into the pump. I've had this a few times with mine, the fuel filter doesn't get changed very often because I've found it hard to obtain. VAP try to sell you the same filter as a TEF which is incorrect. Do you have a good source for these (am also in UK).

Thanks Thomas you were spot on, I think after 47 years a small amount of rubbish gets to this filter,

Thanks again

Hi Bob UK

Bob I had a problem simular to yours with a TEF20
having the Standard Diesel motor, It had blocked felt filters inside the injector pump with algae growth (that used to be a problem with old stale fuels).
To get at these filters the pump was taken off and the felts are located underneath some covers on the back. make sure everything is spotless and clean before opening the pump as those filters are the last stop before the injectors!
