What is the cooling system capacity of an MF35 w/Perkins 3cyl. diesel and should the cooling system treatment wich is used in diesel motor vehicles, to prevent cavitation-corrosion, be used in the tractor?
Thanks.

According to my book it is 9.8 U.S. quarts or 8.2 Imperial quarts. C. T.

Hello Gentlemen -

I've been using regular off-the-shelf AF in the diesels for 30 years with no problems. I filter it through a cloth occasionally - generally at overhaul time - and top up with raw to keep the strength up (and possibly refresh some of the additives).

I've never added any of the lubricants or other radiator "snake oils"; the tractors seem to get along just fine.

The antifreeze will prevent the system from freezing for many years, however modern antifreeze has corrosion inhibitor built in, this has a life of about 2 years. That"s assuming that you use a Glycol antifreeze, I thought that Methanol based antifreeze had been stopped but have seen it for sale again in the past 2 years here in UK - it"s false ecconomy don"t buy it. Therefore coolant should be renewed every 2 years. I always find it easiest to mix 50/50 before filling - when I buy a new drum I empty half into the last empty and top up with water. Then you know that you"ve got the strength right without worrying about capacity, and have the correct mix for topping up.
