Greetings,
My neighbor has a 165 massey that is in need of an overhaul on the motor. He was wondering what would be a ball park figure on the cost. Was wondering if the overhaul is going to cost more than what the tractor is worth. Any insite will be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure about a diesel engine, but if it is continental, I rebuilt our 180 with continental G206 a few years ago. I dont remember exactly, and parts for the G206 are expensive because they are hard to find, but I had the head done at a machine shop, and the rest my self. I replaced all seals and gaskets, new rod and main bearings, new sleeves, pistons, and rings. The crank was not turned. The total cost was around $2000. I think it was worth doing, the tractor really runs nice now, and does not burn a drop of oil. If he is selling the tractor, I would say dont do it, if it is to be kept and used, no doubt it is worth doing.
