Hi all

Do you just fill up the outside section of the bottom bit of the air filter, to where it says "exact oil level" or do you fill up the inner section as well?

Thanks

Ben

You fill both cup evenly to the oil line. The inner cup is a baffle to force the air to bubble through the oil. I read in a college text book that thiner oil is better because the air stream is less likly to form a channel through light oil. I always use 10w oil in my air filters. Oil bath filters are only about 60% effective where paper air filters can be 99% effective.

Good question. I'm going to say full as the first time you run it and shut it down, the oil sucked up into the filter media will drip back down on it, filling it and subsequently overflow back into the sump.

I think it is there to help reduce the agitation of the oil in the sump allowing dust particles to settle to the bottom, rather than remain in suspension.

Not exactly sure I understand you question. The oil bath air filter is filled with 30 wt engine oil to the mark on the oil cup. The oil cup is held on to the bottom of the filter with a clamp.

Sorry i wasnt very clear, in he oil cup, there is a seperate inner section. From the top it looks like two circles. Do you fill up the inner bit of the oil "cup" as well, or just the outer section of the oil cup?

Thanks

Ben

On my oil cup, the inner cup has holes in it so that the oil is maintained at the same level as the outer cup when the engine is off.

There should be a hole in the wall of the "inner cup" that allows the oil to flow between the two chambers when filled. You should be able to fill one chamber and have oil flow into the second when you reach the appropriate level. You should then fill with oil until the level in both chambers is equal to the fill level mark.
