I have an 1100 that will not shift into park. This is a problem to park on any slope with the hydraulic brakes and steering. Is this a major job to fix? Easy fix?

everyone is on the right track sounds like a linkage problem. also could be park pall is worn allowing it to slip around park gear not carching and giving you a gratting sound. I hope for your sake its nothing to do with the park gear. The rest of the tractor was built around the park gear a major piece of work to replace. Good Luck

It might be a linkage problem. Need to have more information. Does the gear shift lever go up in the park slot? Does it have some resistance & stay there when you let go of the lever? If it is not a linkage problem, then the problem is in the rear end. To get to that you need to take the left fuel tank off. Drain the oil out of the rearend, then the cover with the parking pawl can be removed. The problem then is the pawl is bad or the arm that pushes the pawl out is bend. Good luck. If you need more info, let me know.

The gear shift lever will go half-way up the park slot, but will grind when the engine is running. It does not stay in the parking slot however.

It sounds like a linkage problem under the dash. There should be no grinding going into park unless the tractor is still moving. You should always come to a complete stop before putting in park. Try pushing in the clutch when trying to put it in park & see if the grinding stops. If it does and the lever goes all the way into the slot , it is probably in a gear, so let the clutch out slowly to find out. My guess is it would be in reverse, but Don't know for sure. Did the gear shift lever get bent that the shift lever is not moving all the way out of reverse? When you let the cluch out do it slow incase it should be in park & reverse at the same time. Hope this helps.

holm is right, there should be no grinding if you are at a complete stop. One other thing, make sure the multi-power lever is in low, if it's in high you will still have some engine "drag" even with the clutch depressed. Sometimes the park cogs, or gear don't mesh and you need to move the tractor slitghly to get them to go in. Hope this helps, Drill
