I have a 58 mf 65 that runs on an altenator. I have a loose wire and I'm not sure where it goes. I believe it connects to the ignition switch but I don't know which of the 3 connections to attach it to. If I start the tractor and disconnect a battery post the tractor dies. If I start the tractor and touch the loose wire to two of the three connections and then let the loose wire hang freely again then disconnect the battery terminal, the tractor will continue to run.

Assuming it's a delco with a built in regulator it needs power to the connector farthest from the main battery connection. The close pin is the idiot light, Some early regulators had to have this connected through the light to start charging but It would be rare if you had one that old.
