Just bought a 1971 3cyl gas 135. I am a novice and have no expience with this tractor.
I have ordered Parts, Service and Operators manuals.
Thing apparently sat for years, but brakes, gears, hydraulics all seem to work. Dealer rebuilt carburetor and put seals in tranny apparently.
I intend to drain all fluids and replace filters (how may, where?). I then will run for a week or two and replace all again... is this a good strategy for an old sitting tractor?

What else should I do before putting it in to service... most hogging weeds initially.

Recommendations and advice is appreciated. I've read every post on this board related to 135s but haven't seen info in this area.

1971 is hardly an old tractor, I have the same tractor as you do and it is terrific, built to do some work without lots of maintenance

if it starts when you need it to start and moves and lifts your bush hog and actually chops weeds, what more can you ask

make sure the gauges are reliable and check for leaks often, keep air in the tires and cut some brush

So far, you've done everything right! (Including buying the right tractor) The manuals will tell you just about everything you'll ever need to know.

I'm a died-in-the-wool John Deere fanatic, that happens to own a couple old Fergusons/ Massey Ferguson tractors too. MF made the best small, utility tractors EVER....By anyone....Bar NONE.

Good luck! and Happy tractoring. John
