MF 135 'Normal' Oil Pressure

Hello,
My 1971 MF135 3cyl gas sat for years before I bought it...haven't even taken delivery yet...
Anyway... When I was putting it through inspection, it ran fine with oil pressure half way up on gauge (don't have it in front of me) at full throttle running in high range 1st gear. When backed throttle off entirely it lowered back to maybe 1/4 of range, so it seems the gauge is working.
What oil pressure should I expect with this tractor, does my description sound 'normal'?

normal oil pressure may be vary from one type engine to another in the MF 135. I have a 4 cyl gas continental z145 my manual states the normal pressure at low idle is not less than 7lb. and 20-30 lbs. at 1800 RPM"s and recommended relief valve pressure at 30 lb. My oil pressure was going up then dropping needle was bouncing around I pulled the pan to check pickup tube and pump found the relief valve stuck a liitle open took it apart and cleaned everything cleaned hole for plunger with shot gun bore brush put everthing back now I have 20lb at idle and 25 at 1800 RPM,s
and the needle is steady.

Had my MF-135 with Z-145 engine out a bit this afternoon. Checked the oil pressure. It was about 1/3 scale on the meter (no calibration marks to indicated pressure units) and was independent of engine speed from slow idle to as fast as it would go. And the oil pressure did go away when the engine was stopped. So my pressure regulator IS working.

My 135 is right up at the top of the gauge near the red when i first start it, as it gets hot (ie after an hour or so) it will drop back but the lowest ive seen it is half way down the gauge at idle. It will always pick back up again when revved up.

I dont know if this is just a good example or if it is normal unfortunately. Someone else may be able to comment.

Used to get all worked up on it till I realized that idiot lights only operate at between 10 and 15 psig pressure. So if it's out we're happy and may only have 10 psig pressure. Now compare that to my MF 35 that is:

5 to 15 Red
15 to 30 amber
30 to 60 green.

Figure that out.

I don't know about the Perkins engine, but my Continental shows the same pressure independent of engine speed. Oil pressure varying with engine speed would make me think the pressure regulator plunger is stuck partly open unless the bearing are really worn so the pump (which could be worn) isn't keeping up. Having a really thin lubricant brew (oil, fuel, and water) can upset these parts too.

Quarter scale on the gauge is probably OK for idle, half scale or better for running should be OK. The owner's manual covering that year of production should give more details on what is expected and what is safe.
