Hi

I posted about this a little while ago, i am finally going to get round to doing it this weekend, i hope.

Someone suggested enptying it, letting it drip, spraying diesel in with a garden sprayer and wiping the inside with good towels.

How much diesel do you reccomend using?

I would love to get all the water out in one go, as this oil is VERY expensive over here. The cheapest i can get it is £35 for 25 litres. (is it 30 litre capacity, or was it 35?)

Im not going to have time to replace the PTO seal this time, so will spraying the diesel in through the PTO sleector thing on the left side and the fill hole and the two drain holes be enough?

Any other suggestions of how to get it out will be appreciated, ill try every method to ensure i get it all out!

Thanks

Ben

Also, how do you make a gasket for the PTO selector handle?

Thanks

When I asked Big Dean about flushing and replacing my hydraulic fluid, he suggested the following... "If you will tun the tractor long enough to get the oil hot before you drain it pull both drain plugs let it drip for an hour or so then put about 5 gallons of diesel fuel in drive it around enough to splash the diesel up on the sides then pull both plugs to drain the diesel let it drop overnight. you should get enough of the contaminates It will be safe to run that way till you change it the next time in about 500 hours. that is how we did them."

Don't know about making gaskets....

The diesel "wash" is unloaded; flat surface, low rpm's, no implements.

Don't forget to refill with recommended oil

I'd bet that 90% of the tractors in the world have moisture to some degree in their oil sumps as you just can't keep it out. That's why you have the recommended drain interval and filters. Some (most?) filter media is small enough to trap the water molecules, yet let the smaller oil molecules thru.

The only way you can keep moisture out of an open body like that is to hermetically seal it. There is a physical phenomenon that can be explained that states that any unheated body, open to the atmosphere, will injest moisture (in the air) as conditions change (temp, altitude), and that the moisture will remain even though the air flows back and forth as the conditions change.

So my philosophy is to not worry so much about the moisture per se, do the best you can to get it out and just keep it in suspension....use the tractor and keep it from separating from the oil.

Don't know what gasket you're talking about. If it's the large one around the hole, sheet gasket material, pair of scissors, and a punch. If it's the pto lever shaft hole, dunno; maybe your dealer can get you a new one.
