I need help on deciding which Massey V8 to buy?
Ive gone thru the manual,s,and studied up on them
alot,
And there dosn't seem to be anything wrong with them,as far as the engine,or tranny go',s
I looked at a Case 2590,and 2390,they were nice,
but they didn't have the panach of the Massey V8,s,nor did they sound like them,
Are the Massey part,s more expensive than other,s?
Or is the general populace today against older tractor,s like these?
Seem,s Strange?
Kirk C,

I've mainly been around the V8 in the MF 1150s. Spent a tremendous amount of time with one of those. Never heard anything but good stuff about them.

The 2805s and 2775s are a different story, though. I don't hear a lot about engine problems, but I do hear quite a bit about transmission problems.

I worked on a farm that had a Massey 2805 with an Elwood front wheel assist. They ran a New holland 900 chopper with it and pulled a set of 8 bottom onland plows as well as many other large tillage implements. the Tractor had over 12,000 hours on it when the engine finally needed to be overhauled the only other thing that had been done on it was a clutch job and the power shift was rebuilt once. They traded it for an 8200 Johne Deere. The Deere was nice but nothing beats lugging down that v-8 just to watch it trow a 30 foot plume of smoke into the sky. I recommend if you buy a Massey V-8 that you have enough for it to do they seem to last longest if you run them warmed up and wide open.

Kirk: As a previous owner of a Massey V8 many years ago I must tell you that when they used the Perkins diesel engine the drive line, i.e., axles could not hold up to the torque provided by the V8's. But, neither did the axles on the JD 4010 diesels and they were only 6cyl engines. Which means that engineers did not test/use them in extended actual field/farming activities

From my own experience with Massey V8's, they are good. They can make pretty good power and be pretty reliable too. A 2805 would be a big beast to have around.
