I am looking at a MF 65 with a trip bucket loader for sale for $2500. The tractor has sat outside and is got alot of superfical rust. One of the rear rims is almost rusted through around the valve stem, one of the front wheels is rubbing on the spindle and the other is real close to the spindle. The power steering works to the right but not to the left. The loader hoses are in pretty bad shape, in fact one blew while the owner was demonstrating the tractor. The engine runs a bit rough but doesn"t smoke. I think it needs a carburetor kit and tune-up. Everything else appears to work on it. the rear tires or about 75% and fronts are 40%. From talking to a MF mechanic, the 65 was not one of MF"s better tractors. What do you think guys does this sound like a decent deal or just a money pit. If a 65 owner could give me their opinion of the tractor, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I have a 1962 gas have owned it for 12yrs and have done nothing major as for repairs I have used it for plowing, discing, brush hogging, hay mowing with different sickle bars and NH 477 haybine, square baling MF9,round baling IH 8420,raked hay, haul manure. This is truely an all around tractor. PS a very simple adjustment behind grill at cylinder to control stroke.Mine is very gas efficent as long as I use a bottle of lead additive to each tank of gas.Where is this tractor located I would buy for the loader and spare parts maybe needed SOME DAY. VERY DEPENDABLE TRACTOR !!!

Have a MF65 Gas. The tractor is very dependable. When necessary and the newer diesel is busy, it will hanldle the hay roller very well, handles a grinder mixer very well, but for the most part is used to plow gardens and feed roll bales all winter. At light work, very efficient on fuel, but loaded with a roller or grinder, it will consume more. Things sell for different prices in different places. Price is borderline with a loader. As for the engine miss, could be carb. or could need points. If it has been idled quite a bit, they are hard on points, as is most gas engines. Hope to have been of assistance

I have a MF 65 diesel. I've had it for several years and use it regularly to bush hog with. It starts up immediately every time and works great. I have bought and sold several other tractors but will not sell this tractor. These tractors generally bring between 2500 to 3500 from what I have seen. If the loader is in good condition you may be in the ball park but I would offer less. You can turn the front tires/rims backward to avoid the rubbing and hydraulic hoses are not that expensive. The power steering fluid could be low causing the turning problem.

I have a 1959 MF65 gas. Strong, heavy tractor for its size. Power steering makes it easy to drive. I use it primarily for dragging and auger work. No problems so far, reliable even though it sits outside all year.

sounds like to much money for the condition if the rear rim goes and you have to get a new one that is money, the hoses are not that cheap more money, sounds like it needs bushings in the spindles maybe wheel bearings to, if you are buying it to fix you need to get it cheap what you are describing is a tractor that needs quite a bit of work in addition to running rough so you need to get it real cheap or walk away unless you like to do mechanic work on tractors.

I have an English mark 1 diesel I rebuilt about 5 years ago. No loader. If there"s a weak point, it"s the internal hydraulics. Inadequate for anything but the 3 point. I"m about to install a 15gpm front pump. If you"ve got a loader, check that there"s a front pump to run it, otherwise it"ll be very slow. If the power steering works to one side, adjust the center link and it"ll work to both. You may have to replace the pins if there"s too much slop. Not a big deal.
My tractor has been great otherwise. I make a couple thousand bales of hay with it, and it runs all my eqt. without a problem. I understand gas models are a bit thirsty.

Hey Guys, Bought my 1963 MF65 Gas 2 years ago... it was a little rough, but easy to work on. It has a Davis loader with its own pump, which is the only way to go on the older masseys since the internal pump is strong but slow - too slow for a loader in my opinion. Power steering is a common problem, and as mentioned is easily fixed with centre link adjustment. It will go out of adjustment often, but is easily fixed. The mf65 is a little light on the rear with the loader on, so not great for working in snow unless you have chains (~$200 new). The 3pt hitch is very strong. The front end is a little light, so don"t overuse the loader, or else you will be fixing a kingpin. Mine has a differential lock, and multipower wich is pretty handy, but I believe that was an option. Make sure you change the hyraulic/transmission fluid if it is not clear/clean. Front tires can be turned around as mentioned and will give you a bit more room. Front axle is adjustable also... and can widen for hilly terrain. The rear wheels on mine can be loosened off and rotated in or out also. I paid $6K Canadian for mine or about $4500 US. It seems a bit rich, but it is a darn good tractor. For that price, I"m not sure what you could find that is better (same size ~45hp, with loader, 3pth and pto). There are a couple of them for sale in the local bargain finder...and they want more 6500 w/o loader and 7500 with loader. The next generation mf165 goes for 7500-11000 up here. The 65 is a common tractor and most massey dealers can still get parts and rebuild kits. Any specific questions can be sent to Big Dean on this site, he has tons of good advice. I also have a 1957 MH50 (~35hp) which is a fantastic tractor also.
