I am hoping that someone out there can help us with a problem that we are experiencing on our tractor. My husband recently purchased a 1976 MF50A Backhoe with a Model MF300 Loader and a Model MF54 Backhoe. The problem is that the hydraulics are not responding - he can not lift his bucket or backhoe. There is also what seems to be a grinding sound coming from the area of the PTO.

What would the problem be and how should he proceed to fix it???? Thank-you for any help that you can provide.

Catherine

Holm is right about it either being the splines striped out on the pump or the shaft coupler or maybe both. What he did not tell you those shaft can be very difficult to remove from the adapter plate. The backhoe really causes them to get very tight. If you do have a problem getting it unscrewed Email me I will tell you the 2 or 3 different ways I have found for removing them.

The problem is probably the splines on the hyd. pump or the drive shaft. The hyd. pump drives off the front of the engine. It is under the front end in front of the axle. There should be 2 bolts holding the pump. Take those out and the pump should pull out. The drive shaft has left handed threads amd screws out off the adapter on the front crankshaft pulley. Good luck.
