my ms 65 (1958) has a trouble getting into the (ground pto) position. I tried moving the clutch while trying to engage but no luck. I can get it engaged if the rpm's are very low and I shove long enough. all suggestions appreciated.

Sorry to but in but do you have a 2 stage clutch which needs adjustment. If so see big Deans web site. Does the lever go in and out of normal PTO OK?

Manual talks about alignment of the hyd pump for problems of that nature. But it talks about parts I can't find in either the service manual or parts list.

Anyhew, since the pump is right on the end of the pto shaft where also the ground drive hootus is, it makes sense that the pump needs to be repositionsed so the yokes can line up.

Maybe you can talk to an MF guy to find out where these things are you loosen to alingn the pump.

There is no alignment adjustment of the pump that can be carried out. Possible causes of your difficulty of engaging ground drive are;
1/ Wear between pump dowel and dowel hole in front plate of pump.
2/ Broken dowel and/or pump plate.
3/ Burring of gear teeth on ground drive gear.

If you look just behind the join between the gearbox and rear centre housing you will see a diamond shaped plate on each side. Drain the oil and remove the plate. You will see if the dowel is broken or worn. With a torch you should be able to see the hole in the pump plate and look for any damage or ovality. If there is wear present you may well have heard some knocking coming from the pump region. If the plate is worn or broken, the hydraulic cover will have to be removed (special tools advisable) and the necessary repairs carried out to the pump.

Hope this helps.

My service manual definitely talks (at least in 2 sections) about alighment of the pump..... but as I said, I couldn't find what they were talking about.
