There were 5,670 F-40s produced in 1956 and 3,427 in 1957 for a total of 9,097.

In 1955-57 there was a virtual twin to this Ferguson F-40. It was called the MH 50. They differed only in sheet metal and paint colors.

The Ferguson F-40 was painted beige and flint gray metallic (a new early ones had metallic green castings).

In 1958 they combined the two lines and the replacement for these two was the MF 50.

In the late 50s many Ferguson F-40s had their sheet metal repainted red and the Ferguson decals were replaced with Massey decals in order to make them look newer and to match the new MF color scheme.

You apparently have one that was repainted.

They are fine tractors. I have two of them (both standard chassis). Both of them had been repainted. But a careful examination of the paint under the hood showed the beige original under the red.

I believe that there are about 10,000 total F40s. There seems to be a good number of the high arches. I wish mine had power steering. I would agree with Indydirtfarmer's quoted prices. I haven't seen too many with a narrow front.

They aren't really "High-Crop", but "High-Arch". I have one currently under restoration.

From what I've seen, they aren't any more valuable than the standard "utility" version. They retain a certain value do to the fact that they are still VERY popular for a working tractor.

I've seen 'em for as low as $2000 (in running condition) on up to $4000 (in same condition) Fully restored, the most I've seen one actually sell for was $5500. I've seen restored ones PRICED at $7500, they just couldn't sell 'em at that price.

That was/is still a very good old tractor. VERY MUCH under valued and under appreciated. John
