Senior/Super mistake in tractor book ???

Looking through a tractor book here that a friend picked up and I see what I have always thought of as a 101 Super (Twin Power), specifically the 6-cylinder Chrysler powered (201) with full panels (louvered), chrome strips at the front, cast-iron grille center, etc. No doubt it is a 101 Super and the writeup says 1939 which makes sense. But whoever restored it put on a set of "Senior 101 Twin-Power" decals. Now I have a hard time believing that someone that went to that trouble restoring the tractor (looks very nice) put the wrong set of decals on. To my knowledge, the Senior lines came out later with the Continental flatheads and open-sided panels, etc. Any possible explanations for this? The book is called "Classic and Collectable Tractors" and was published by Publications International from Illinois.

I have a 1938 junior with a 124c.i.d and a 1938 101 super with 201 c.i.d .Chassis look identical.I thought the super was made before the juniors.

You are correct Mike. The 101 senoir used the 226 continentail and the side panels were opened up like the junior. The air cleaner was also moved from behind the grill to the side of the engine.

Ordered a set of decals for a 4000 Ford; year model was '62. In the 62 to 64 years, the decal was black, blue, white and maybe some silver (not looking at the tractor). In '65 Ford changed sheet metal and decals.

The decals that came in fit the later model. Had I not known the difference, I may have installed them not knowing. I spent a lot of time on this restoration also.

Who knows.

Probably a botch order decal shipment. Not everyone out there processing the paperwork knows the difference between a Super, Senior, or possibly in a Junior. Just knowing 101 is a sixty year old red tractor is the limit, to our frustration. I recall those '39 101's, Super, cast wheels, not a match to later MH 44 cast centers, having the hub reversed, much thicker cast. Saw that question recently, on cast MH centers. In '47, 30 & 44 RC had 38" cast, as an option. The 30 had a much thinner disc, about half the 44 weight. Those skirted 101's were always an eye catcher. Too bad they put the wrong decals on a restored 101.
