If the price is right then go for it. I guess a guy's gotta think about rear rubber .... it can get pretty pricey for new stuff and sometimes difficult to find a matched used set. Those side panels are tough to straighten out (if you're luckey enough to have them) and almost impossible to find a decent used set. New ones might send you to the poorhouse. Lots of parts available for that Chrysler engine, it should be the original "short length" 201 block I believe. Sometimes a transplanted truck or combine engine (longer) ends up in those. Most of the rest of the tractor is standard Massey stuff like the tub, rear differential, tranny, etc. from the Seniors and Juniors of that era. What sort of a price is the guy asking for it? Is it a standard wide front or a row crop?

Thanks for the return Mike,,
Tires are shot,,might hold air for transport, 1 Rear rims is rusted out, side panels are there but bent and welded. The motor looks like old Chrysler, but distributor is on top thru head. I never seen one like that,, they are on side in old trucks I have seen. Hope to buy it for bout $100. Have bought stuff from the guy before and he was very reasonable. It is a row crop also. It is complete down to fenders, pto shield and belt pulley. Thanks again,,,,, ,,,Bill

The price is right, pretty much free with what $100 buys these days. I would think that engine should be ID'd somehow. It is a 6-cylinder right? I know that Continental 6 cylinders had the distributor up through the head. The Senior lineup for 101's used Continental flatheads. Are you sure that it is a Super 101 and not a Senior 101? There are two sidepanels on each side. The Super panels fully enclosed the engine and had about 60 louvres punched in there. Somehow I think you might have a 101 Senior. If the serial number tag is gone, check on the upper surface of the transmission case between the shift platform and the steel plate covering the differential. To the left side near the clutch pedal area. Scrape away, it will be there and then post the serial number. Is your grille all tin and louvred or does it have a castiron post running up the middle with removeable panels on each side?

I have the ser. # from the plate. It is 101 SR- 271402. The side panels have no louvers. They just fold from the top. The grille appears to be all steel. I couldn't read the manufacturer tag on engine as it had some crud on it and didn't want to scrape and destroy tag. I took several pics last time there. Might be back there this coming weekend and do a better inspection. Thank you.

That number says it is a Senior (S for senior, R for row crop). It is a 1946 model (just like me), the last year of Senior production from what this book says (270145-272506). Does it have the extra set of sidecovers that cover the battery area as well? Those are often missing. There were lots of those around here although most of them were tagged as 102's if they were exported away from the US. In the states, I believe the 102's were the low-grade fuel (distillate) models. Good luck with your project.

Just over 5000 row crop and just over 5100 standard 101 supers were made from 1938 thru 1942 with 31 drawbar HP and 40 belt HP. Hope this helps. The rest is up to you.

if the distributors sticking out through the head it's a continental. Which makes it a 102? Mike, Help!. or a 101 with the wrong engine.

The 101-Senoir used a continental built 226-six cylinder engine. The 102-senoir used a continental built 244-six cylinder engine. The 102 models were essentially the same tractor, designed to burn low-grade(kerosene)feul.The later 102 models were merely an export model of the 101 models.
