Hi,
My grandfather had this problem 30 years ago after loaning his TO30 to a neighbor. Calves had chewed up the wiring and the trouble was caused by the neighbor rewiring the coil primary backwards. The tractor would start and run fine until it started to warm up. Eventually, it would misfire enough to quit running and not restart until it was stone cold again. Switching the connections on the coil primary fixed the problem. Hope this helps with your problem. Billy

Check for spark after it heats up and also (if it is gas)check it is not vapor locking or has a fuel line restriction.

Well, a bad coil could cause that. Is it 6 volts or converted to 12 Volts? I seem to remember a resistor used in a 12 volt conversion that could fail. Can anyone expand on this?

If the reistor fails open circuit, you'd have no primary current to the coil and the engine would not run. The other question, in my opinion, would be does this tractor have a 12V conversion and if it does, does it have a true 12V coil or is a 6 volt coil used with a resitor? If it's the latter, then must be a reistor installed or the coil will overheat. Also, is there any indication of engine overheating?
