I am looking at a massey 65 that is diesel. The man who ownes it said you have to turn the fuel off after using it or it will leak into the oil. He put a new pick up pump on it but that didn't help. Is this a severe thing? I just want to use it as a chore tractor but I don't want to put a lot into it. Thanks for any help

Hi,
The obvious thing to go for is the lift pump. If this has been changed there are a couple of possibilities.
Unlikely; Injector leaking excess fuel into bores and finding its way to the sump.
Unlikely; Thermostart leaking, normally causes excess white smoke.
Probable; Seal at front of main fuel pump worn/damaged allowing fuel to pass into timing case and then sump. A UK overhaul is somewhere about 220 pounds so would guess that would be about $280.
Regards
David P,
