285 mf head gasket

have a massey ferguson 285 have had 4 head gaskets blow out in 8 years, was told they were known for blowing head gaskets. any thoughts on why having head gasket problems

Got 3 of those rascals , 1 head gasket in 3 tractors in over 15 years , not a problem here.

have a fm 1085 same 318. last time i put studs in (not cheap i think about $13.00 each) used new torque specs with studs. check block between cylinders for wear from leaking. check liners are above block as listed in service man. check head flatness. last time i rebuilt mine i left out thermostat.i know its wrong but it works. just watch water temp. in winter and don"t idle a lot when cold. warm up befor heavy use. worked for last 5 years like that.

They changed the studs and nuts on the 318 engines and increased the torque on them. Sometimes the block will be damaged if the engine has been ran very long with a blown gasket
