How does one tell a Continental Z176 gas from a Perkins AG4-212 gas? Our inherited MF 30 has a 4 cyl. gas with starter on left, exhaust/intake on right. Engine numbers are cast/stamped into the block. No riveted number plate is evident. Any ideas? Thanks.

Figured it out (thanks to Big Dean, of course): Engine serial number is the key. Perkins is stamped on bosses, ours is definately 212 Perk. Love to hear from 30 Industrial and other industrial owners. The Massive Ferguson is alive and well with little effort and a small infusion of $.

our 165 gas perkins has dist on opposite of sparkplugs ,oil filter is smaller and hangs down ,oil drain is in the center of oil pan in front of transmission instead of side. The perkins looks like a perkins diesel with sparkplugs ,hope this is clear
