I have an opportunity to purchase an MF230 with only 1000 hours on it for a great price. Can anyone tell me the difference between the 230 vs 231 vs 240 vs 245 models. Is it just Horsepower or is there something else. Also, was differential lock an option on the 230 or is it per model. Thanks

The 230 and 245 were build over the same time period. They were assembled in the US.

The 231 and 240 are later models. The 231 is a MF built by URSUS of Poland and the 240 is a MF/UK model.

A diff-lock was optional on the 230.

If the 230 will do the job for you, I'd go for it. Pretty good old tractor!

The 230 has a slightly less powerfull engine than the 240, and has a front discharge exhaust. This was to get it through the UK noise regulations when the Q-cab regulations came in. Tractors over a certain power required cabs hence the downrated engine, and driver ear noise had to be limited. By putting the exhaust at the front this was achieved. Thus the 230 was available in UK & Europe up to 2001 wheras the 240 was not.
