Today I found a 7' MF sickle bar mower and the only ID on it was the Ser. 238 0498899. Is there a way I can gather model information on this mower? Anyone know if I could use it on a 2N Ford? Thanks.

Is it a rear or side mounted. Have a pitman (wooden arm) or look like a crankshaft inside the drive housing. Is it cast iron body or steel fabricated. If you can post a decent picture on this site I'm sure me or someone can identify. I cannot find any listing of serial numbers for these mowers. Maybe someone has such a list, would love to have a copy.

The guy wants 165.00 for the mower? Think thats too high? He already told me the bearings are out of it. If this sounds like a reasonable deal, I'll get some photos of it and let you have a look. Might be a nice accessory, although a project, I'm sure. Also an area I know nothing about. Some kind of manual would sure help.
Thanks for you help with this.

Sorry, it is a rear mount. Looks like cast. The mower frame at the 3 pt hookup has a short arm under the left 3pt arm that looks like it assist in raising the mower arm.

Assuming you do not have a pitman stick/rod ; It would probably be a 30 or 31; both of these have a cast iron body. It would not be the 41 as it is a fabricated steel body. Still need a photo to make sure. The 31 would look from a distance like two horseshoes upside down as a frame. The 30 would have (if still intact) a guard on the larger pulley (left side of tractor).
