Hi eveybody, I do not own any MH's and have no clue about them. I have mainly Farmalls. A guy down the road is selling a MH 44, Started up good and ran pretty good. After I ran it alittle bit and let off the clutuch it had a tendence to surge alittle bit. There was no real sign of smoke. It has sometype of 2 point lift that is in working condition. The rear tires are shot but do have decent chains on them. What is the engine size? Horsepower? What would this 44 compare to in a Farmall maybe an H ? The guy has $1600 on it right now is that a fair price??
Thanks for the help!!!!
Andrew

I paid $1600 for a 1951 MH 44 GS. This is the standard tread version. It has a freshly rebuilt motor and 4 fresh tires. It is all complete and just needs some sandblasting and painting.

the 44 came with 2 engine types 4 cyl 260ci 45 hp & 6 cyl 226ci 35 hp, the 4 cyl will compare to a M farmall. $1600. sounds a bit much if you have to put tires on it. hope this helps.

The Nebraska test results for the 44 4 cyl.were 47 hp at 1350 RPM engine speed. That was the PTO rating.I don't think the 44-6 was ever tested at Nebraska but it was rated by the manufacturer at 36 belt hp @1800 rpm.So the difference in horsepower was not as great as it would seem since the 6 cylinder engine was governed at 1980 RPM no load---1800RPM load.Either tractor, all things even, should compare very favorably with a Farmall M.From a personal perspective the Massey Harris was nicer to drive compared to the M.

I would say that $1600 is a bit on the high side even if it had decent tires. Much easier on gas than the Farmall M.

the44 has 260 CID with 45.64 horse at Nebraska Test. I would say closer to a Farmall M
