I have a Massey-Harris Super Twin Power 101, narrow front. I don't know if I have something worth restoring or if this is just a common Massey tractor. I'll take any info. you can give me. Thanks A lot!!!

Definitely worthwhile doing, especially if it still has the full set (4) of original sidepanels in good condition. Most times they are missing or if they are there, they are banged up pretty bad. The panel tin was pretty flimsy and is difficult to pound out and straighten. They are probably available in the aftermarket but might set you back a fair chunk of change to buy them. Engine parts are readily available (Chrysler industrial engine) and it was built on the same chassis pretty much as the 101/102 Seniors and Juniors.

The JSE would be J for Junior, S for standard (non-adjustable) wide front but the E is a mystery. Maybe it is an F which means foot clutch. If it is an E, make a post asking for "Harris Guy's" help, he knows all that stuff and more. It's quite possible that the linkage for the twin power feature has been removed. If your tractor had it on in the first place, there is a little small casting box bolted on the front right side (carb side) of the transmission which the shifting rails slide into. On the side of this little casting will be a small lever that is activated when you are in the B (belt) or 4 (high gear) gearshift position. That hooked to a linkage that somehow bypassed the regular governor setting for field work and gave you extra RPM's for belt work or for road travel in 4th gear.

No , we cleaned all the areas where the serial # and it is JSE .there is no spot for the twin power rod.No B on the shift cover either. On the dash has a metal tag says cadman power inc. serial #134 . A Lot of massey stuff around ,this thing is kind of a oddball. Stratford

The twin-power on the 101's and 102's with continental engines was achieved by haveing two positions on the throttle. There was no extra linkage on them. From the data I have on them they were all built with the twin power. The 101's with the Chrysler engine used the linkage from the gear shift to the governor.

We had a 102 twin power from 1949 untill mid 60"s.
As mentioned the twin power came form the raised sector on the lower section of the throtle codrant. If i remember corretly we ran it in the full setting throtle setting all the time. ( or at least i did ) The engin was tough if hard to start on damp mornings. I think we had it rebuild three times over the years.
With our tractor the low speed top gear was designed for steel wheels that was in the 102 befor the end of the war. She was slow but would pull a house up a hill given enough traction.
Good luck on the restoration ( s ).

You're right about the raised section on the throttle quadrant, however it wouldn't do you any good for raising RPM's unless the linkage setup I mentioned earlier engaged and allowed the bypass the basic setting on the governor itself. Twin Power really only kicked in (if things were set up properly) when the tractor was in B or 4 on the gear selection and then you went to that raised portion with the throttle lever.

For Alberta Mike:Both my 102's have the twin power on them and it will work in any gear and also with the belt pulley. All I have to do is move the throttle to the raised section of the quadrant. They don't have any extra linkage. My super 101 does not have any of the linkage for the twin power.

Interesting. I think that fellow who publishes the Massey Golden Harvest paper (I think that's the name) would know for sure but he's only available by letter, not email. He has answered almost any questions I threw at him years back by SAS envelope. I think his name is Keith Oltrogge or something like that.
