Ive been reading and enjoying this site for a month or so, it has answered alot of questions..
But I have more.

Recently, I purchased 40 some acres in southern Virginia. It is a grown up pasture with mostly 25 year old cedars. I plan on clearing the land this summer but have a few questions.

In the paper this week is a MF 175 diesel tractor. Im going to look at it this weekend. Owner said there are no problems with the tractor(that he knows of). He wants 3500 OBO

What are the most common problems with mf 175s?

How much will it cost to add a bucket/hydraulic system so i can push over them cedars?

Where can I find online prices on such attachments?

Thanks
Brian

The Palace of King of Ogoni Kingdom,
Ogoni Oil producing community,
Rivers State Nigeria.

Dear Sir,
I am Princess Blessing , daughter of HRH King Solomon Abonime, the king of Ogoni Kingdom. I am 25 years oldand a graduate of Mass Communication.
My father was the king of Ogoni Kingdom the highest oil producing area in Nigeria. He was in charge of reviving royalties from the multi-national oil
companies and government on behalf of the oil producing communities in Nigeria. After the hanging of the Ogoni Nine(9) including Ken Saro Wiwa by the late
dictator General Sani Abacha, my father suffered stroke and died in August27th 2004 last year. But before his death, he called me and told me he has Twenty Three Million Five Hundred and Sixty Thousand Dollars
(USD23,560,000.00) cash in his possession, specially deposited in a Security firm here. He advised me not to tell anybody except my mother who is the last wife of the (8) eight wives that he married. My mother did not bear any male child for him. Which implies that all my father’s properties,
companies e.t.c., we have no share in them because my mother has no male child according to African Tradition. My father therefore advise me to contact his lawyer for the relevant documents of the said money, and told me that I should use this money with my mother and my younger sisters because he knows that tradtionally, if he dies we cannnot get anything, as inheritance. He importantly advised me that I should seek for foreign assistannce and that I should not invest this money here in Nigeria because of his other wives and male children who happen to be my elders. I am soliciting for your immediate assistance to get a Bungalow for us, where I will live with my mother and two younger sisters and further advise me where and how I will invest the balance money overseas, possibly on products of your company and other profitable ventures. I believe that by the special grace of God, you will help us move this money out of Nigeria to any country of your choice where we can invest this money judiciously with you. You are entitled to a reasonable part of this money based on our agreement and God will bless you as you help us.
PLease reply through my Email:blessingabonime@yahoo.co.in
Looking forward to hear from you as soon as possible.
Regards.
Princess blessing abonime

For what its worth I bought A MF 175 recently for $4000. also diesel. I think the people saying not to push on trees are right. Sometimes they snap back and it hurts. Good Luck Lou

In answer to your question on the tractor, $3500 sounds reasonable if it is in decent shape, especially if it is a diesel. You should check the usual things, tires(rear)and rear rims, how it starts, no excessive smoke after it warms up,the clutch, drive train noise, PTO operation, 3 pt. arms operation, and hydraulic outlets. If it has MultiPower, see that it shifts somewhat smoothly, and no excessive Hyd. leaks. You'll need at least a pair of hydraulic outlets if you are going to put a loader on it and unless your a lucky shopper a good loader could cost as much as the tractor. Good Luck

Brian H. Here in Missouri, the cedars are very stubborn. I have tried the front bucket routine with my Backhoe--just splinters and breaks off-won"t come out of the ground. My best results is the chain saw or dig it out.

Hello Brian H., Sounds like me some years ago. Here in Virginia too! Are you putting this land back into pasture? If so you might consider cutting the cedars down and get the poles you"ll need for your fence. Pile up the laps and let them dry out until late winter then burn them. You will be surprised at how much land you can clean up with a chainsaw and bushoggin. Spend your weekends at it and you"ll get there over time without all the headaches of a crawler tractor eating away at your wallet too.

Say, what county you in?

Take Care,
mud

Don't know about cedars where you are, but here in Texas you ain't going to push cedars over with anything less than a D-8. I thought I would with a MF 50 once. That was a waste of time... If the tractor does not have power steering you may want to rethink the idea of a bucket. They get real hard to steer when nose loaded.
