Hi All, Back home on my farm I have a MF 135 Deluxe gas w/ a Z145 Continental Engine. My problem is that it hasn't run or been used in 12 years since my Dad died in 1993. My mother had a guy come out to the house in late 1993 or 1994 said it had a cracked block. I am not sure if that is the case, because I looked at the engine and I didn't see any cracks, but then again the old Massey dealer that used to be where I live had replaced the horizontal muffler with a stack one (In the spring of 1993), which in turn the outlet from the muffler was smaller than the outlet hole from the manifold, which the gentlemen at Tractor Supply said could have caused the block to crack. I have an operator's manual and the service/repair manual. I haven't gotten the parts manual yet, but I am going to be doing so in the next few weeks as I am going to be on spring break. I don't have any previous mechanical experience, and I know from reading the manuals the 135 Deluxe were complex machines. So this is my question, how can I tell indefiniatly that the block is cracked? Or alternatively, if its not cracked, since its sat outside for over a decade, what kind of problems will I have or might experience trying to get this thing started? Also, some bozo stole the remote hydrolic system of it in the latter part of the 1990s, so the cap that should be under the seat with that lever is gone, am I going to have any problems with that as well? I guess you can say I am doing it for pratical and sedimental reasons, but its essentially a new tractor - it only has 179 hours on it. I appreciate any advice you can give me!

I would flush the crankcase with diesel, pour it in and drain it out, water flush the cooling system. Install new oil and antifreeze. Check the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, clean and file or replace as necessary.
Flush out he gas tank with varsol, remove the sediment cup-valve assembly to let the varsol drain out until clean. Put it back together, new gas in, start it up and run it with the rad cap off until it starts warming up. Check for bubbles in the rad, if clear, put the cap back on. After letting it run a while fully warmed up, drain the oil and check for green. That would be coolant. No green? New oil and adjust the carb and ignition timing. If it runs good, that's good. I can't answer about the hydro system.

muffler size will [[[NOT]]] cracke the block only way is freezing or a rod out the side. will it turn over? was there water in it or antifreeze. just look at the sides for cracks if it is you should see them. if your in warm weather fill it with water DON"T do it if it can freeze for sure you will see any cracks that way but do not run untill you change the oil just in case you get water in the oil

I haven"t tried to start it - I didn"t want to cause more damage than it might already have. I do not know what is in the radiator nor have I changed the oil yet. That is when I go home next week for Spring Break. On a side note that is interesting that the muffler wouldn"t do that - the way it was explained to me was that the exaust would back up in the muffler and cause the block to overheat and crack.
