I have a MF 135. My engine PTO does not work, but the ground PTO does. The PTO lever is loose between between engine and neutral but appears to be normal between neutral and ground. I have some mechanical experience, but just wanted to know if this is something I can fix or bring in the mechanic. Thanks

Thanks Guys, I opened the PTO cover and noticed the alignment was off. I put a new gasket on and replaced the oil. Works Great. Thanks for the info. Blair

The ferguson pump is driven by the same shaft as the engine PTO. If you have no hydraulics then you probably have a clutch problem.

If you have hydraulics working then you have a problem with the selector mechanism. Take the side cover off as Gerald describes and have a look. You will probably need to take the lift cover off to do any repairs. This is not dificult if you know what you are doing but not a novice job.

Be sure the shifter is moving the sliding gear in both directions. You can take off the shifter cover (tilt the tractor to the right with the left rear wheel up on a 6 or 7" thick timber, else oil will run out).

You can have problems with the clutch or stuff on forward from the sliding shift gear.

You can't necessarily get the engine PTO in gear without the engine running and letting the clutch out a bit to turn the shaft. Its not synchronized, just a couple gears meshing, one sliding on the output shaft.

If its a clutch or front gear problem there's nothing much you can do without taking the tractor apart.
