I have a 35 M.F. with a Perkins diesel. The serial# is SNMY 365352. What does the letters and numbers mean? Can anybody decipher it for me? I have bounced around several sites looking for info but I am not having much luck. The tractor decals say Massey Ferguson 35 Diesel, but the tractormeter has F.E. 35 on it. What gives? What have I got? What am I supposed to have? Please help!! Thanks

The Ferguson 35 ( FE35 )which represented "Ferguson,England" was built at Coventry, England from 22 August 1956 serial no 1001 to 2 December 1957 serial No 74655.The tractors were painted grey and gold. The name on the bonnet was " ferguson " and the manufacturers plate with the serial no listed it as "FE35".

Fron serial No 746556, the tractors were painted red and grey, and carried " Massey Ferguson" decals on the bonnet. However they were the same model of tractor and the manufacturers plate , rivited to the dash, still listed the tractor as a Massey ferguson" FE35" along with its serial No.
Even after the Perkins 3 cylinder engine was installed , and i believe up till the 135 came into production, the MF35 was always listed on the manufacturers plate as a Massey ferguson "FE35".

Similarly , in the UK, the Massey Ferguson 65 was always listed on the manufacturers plate as being a "765", whish went back to Massey Harris days when british tractors and impliments carried a "7" prefix , i.e. 744, 745 tractors,

Hamish

Hamish, Thanks! I understand some of it. It is not an FE but was manufactured in England (positive ground?). Plus the local MF dealer agrees it is not a U. S. or Canadian manufactured tractor. So We have 1964 model MF35's. It looks like Massey made 35's and 135's in 1964, is this correct? C. T.

Hamish posted the following:
FIRST LETTER
S standard
R rowcrop twin wheels
T rowcrop single wheel
C high clearance
U utility
V vineyard
J industrial
SECOND LETTER
B L.P.G. ( butane)
G gas (6:1) H gas (6.6:1)(high altitude
K T.V.O
L lamp oil
N diesel
ND direct injection desiel

LAST LETTERS
M dual clutch
F single clutch
W multi power
Y diff lock
H anyone know?

The numbers indicate that it is a 1964 model. Mine is a 1964 and my number is 360173 so yours was manufactured after mine and I believe 1964 was the last year that the 35 was built.
So, you should have a standard chassis, diesel, dual clutch (you depress the clutch halfway down and the PTO continues to operate, but the tractor won't move), and differential lock (a pedal on the right side that locks the rear wheels, use only when wheels are not turning). C. T.

I also meant to mention, mine has FE35 on the tractormeter and on the s/n plate and was manufactured in Coventry, England. My battery is also positive ground. The people on this site have said that the last FE35 was built in 1960, so I am not sure. It is possible that the s/n's in our range were a 1960 range for the Coventry plant. I wish someone that knew the answer would see these posts and respond. C. T.
