OK, I'm not a big mechanic however i know when something don't look right. Today i was under my 165 just looking around when i noticed what appeared to be a plate missing on the bottom front of the transmission housing, and i believe what i am seeing when i look inside IS THE CLUTCH!!!. I'm hoping some master mechanic will tell me that all 165's have a big hole in the bottom on the transmission...but i doubt it.

Hi Al165
For once the problem is only minor and the solution easy. It is essential to have a plate under the clutch access point to keep out water and debris etc. Plates from MF35 upwards will fit or make your own if you can. They are normally 1/8" thick and
are exact shape of the casting face. You don't need 4 holes 2 diagonal ones will do.
Ben is right about 5/8" UNC but 1" to 1 1/4" bolts will be quite satisfactory. 2" might well bottom.

Cheers
David P

Its ok...its meant to be there....should have a plate over it though.

You have to go up though there to adjust the PTO clutch...

Should have 4 bolt holes in a rectangular pattern there - get a plate/make a plate and bolt it up there. Dont want water going in there if you drive through a flood or something!

The bolts are 5/8 UNC and about 2 and a hlaf inches long.

Ben

I checked today to see if one could be ordered and the guy told me no. I guess i will have to find a junk one somewhere or try and make one.
